Impact of coronavirus disease 2019 on children in Najaf city

Abstract:
Background: The susceptibility of children and adolescents to SARS-CoV-2 has been repeatedly demonstrated by subsequent research. infection, but a significant portion of kids are either asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic; as a result, the actual prevalence of infection is underreported because children are not tested as often.
Aim of study: This study aimed to characterize the Relation between coronavirus (covid-19) and children according to the demographic data in najaf city of Iraq.
Methods: This subject done by using data that contain some question (age of child, gender, address, number and duration of infection, severity, drugs use, treatment period, hospital stay period, body weight changes, appetite changes, complications, chronic diseases, treatment adherence, preventive measures.) then answer by 100 families of infected children suffering corona virus.
Results: Questionnaire results were counted, our found that the percentage of males to females 59% to 41%, their age was ranging between less than 6 month and more than 5 years, also Our found that the largest percentage is for age more than 5 years. Duration of deases was less than 5 days and cases were more frequent in the urban at rate 91% compared to rural area at rate 5% and industrial area at rate 4%, as well assignificant the percentage of chaildren that needed hospitalization is 17.8% in the questionnaire was less compared to 81% of patients were not hospitaladmission. In Covid-19 patient who didnot suffering from complication is 43% this is high percentage when compared to suffering from drycough, difficulty moving, tired, remembering and loss of sense of smell and taste. As well as 82% of patients were use immune boosters and 47% needed to use antibiotics. about 52% of patients are completely committed to mangment and the infected child was isolated from family 62%, and 28% not committed to management, with 38% didn't take precaution.
